ABOUT RUSS JONES
Russ Jones is a Utah-based flutist, originally from the mountains of California. Russ’ musical journey began with his spiritual trip to Mexico, where he purchased his first flute in 2011. As a self-taught flutist, Russ first developed a connection with a Native American style flute, before expanding his arsenal to include flutes from around the world. Jones’ first solo album was recorded in 2014, after which Russ began to perform at house concerts, New Age festivals, and work as a studio musician for film scores. Jones’ flute collection includes historical Native American Flutes, including the Shakuhachi, and the Kaval. Russ has just released a new album “Starlite,” in July, 2023.

I think we can all agree there is something supremely mystical about the Native American flute. It has a special way of transporting us to whole other realms.
Russ Jones is an award-winning, self-taught flutist and composer known for his captivating flute music, played mostly on the Native American flute, which he started playing in 2011. He creates enchanting flute compositions that resonate with listeners worldwide. His unique style and virtuosity have earned him critical acclaim and a loyal following.
The song, “Starlite,” contains rich and emotive qualities and here we feel a wide range of emotions through Russ’ flute, such as joy, melancholy, and deep tranquility. “Starlite” has that truly mesmerizing, meditative quality that totally relaxes the mind, body, and spirit without effort.
"Starlite" begins with delicate, breathy flute notes that float gently in the air, mirroring the twinkling of stars in the night sky. The soft and soothing tones instantly capture the listener's attention, creating a serene atmosphere. As the song progresses, Russ skillfully weaves intricate patterns, effortlessly moving between higher and lower registers of the flute, creating a sense of movement and exploration.
The composition unfolds with a sense of grace and fluidity, as if the listener is embarking on a celestial journey through a vast expanse of stardust. The melody expands and contracts, rising and falling like cosmic waves, while the subtle nuances in Russ’ performance add depth and expressiveness to the piece.

The flute can be such a descriptive instrument, it can make the heart sing and, can make it cry, here on this latest single from Russ Jones the latter emotion is one that we will be diving deep into, with this brand new single entitled Darkness Of My Heart.
The tale of this moving musical voyage, whilst deep and dark, has layers of sadness woven into its weave world of an arrangement, it’s also an addictive track, as when listening, one would find it all too easy to get lost within its realms, and time would pass in an instant, that’s a testament to just how good this song is.
The fullness of this composition is also something to behold, the depth here is not only palpable, but contains a narrative so emotively created it will shift your mental focus to a place of great introspection and meditative awareness, here is a slice of ambient flute, one that bridges the void of tone and texture.
Darkness of My Heart by Russ Jones is a musical slow moving river that has been hidden from sight, and only found by those who need a sanctuary of sound to be in the moment with; this is the theme for any hermit like existence, and most certainly music for a dark night of the soul before any rebirth back into the light, and without doubt is one of the most powerful flute performance I have heard this year with ease.
